Does a custom paint job raise the value of a car?

Question: Does a custom paint job raise the value of a car?

I know this is kind of a stupid question since the deprication of automobiles drops quite a bit as soon as you drive it off the lot, but i got a new chevy silverado 2500 and was wondering if putting a custom job on it had any benefits besides bragging rights.

Things like this don't have a clear cut answer. A custom paint job will narrow your potential buyers list, but will make the car more valuable in their eyes. So your chances of selling the car goes down, but the chances of selling it at a higher price are a bit higher. Again, this isnt as clear cut as im making it sound.

No...Unless you convince your buyer it does. Look at Kelly Blue Book or NADA for values of vehicles and a nice glossy paint job, free of blemishes and scratches, makes a difference though.

Any changes to a vehicle from stock will lower the trade in value of the vehicle. A repainted vehicle will always be worth less in trade to a dealer. If you're selling it private party, then it may be possible to find someone willing to spend what you think it's worth, but the chances of that are slim, due to everyone having different tastes.

Only if a buyer likes the paint-job.

Just my opinion, but I would stray away from custom ANYTHING when it comes to buying used cars. I don't want to buy someone elses' project. I'd want to build my own from "stock ".

Your custom paint might do both raise value to attract thiefs or chase away buyers. Same flame job might look funny on a PT cruser looks ok on a 32 Ford. It is a matter of taste. Your money will be best spent keeping the truck maintained and oil's serviced and new tires. And cool options like high def satilite wide screen TV for the back seat.

Never paint anything over on your car unless you absolutely have too.
